The two black on black pieces at the front were done with red clay and then taken from the kiln at 2000 degrees and placed in a bed of "Cow Chips", which smolder and infuse into the hot pottery until it comes out black. Lou says he was never an artist, but he painted the one with humming birds using a human hair brush (don't ask).

This vase was painted by Noe Quezada, son of Juan who revolutionized pottery in the town of Mata Ortiz. Noe gets $5000 to $7000 for his larger pieces.
